Franklin Library located in the Phillips neighborhood of Minneapolis opened in 1914, replacing the Phillips Library established in 1890. Franklin Library was one of the first four Carnegie-funded libraries built in Minneapolis and one of 13 libraries developed under nationally known library director Gratia Countryman, who was instrumental in expanding the city’s library system (1904 to 1936.) Franklin Library has received historic designation from the City of Minneapolis Heritage Preservation Commission and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Friends of Franklin Library is a volunteer-run organization whose mission is to support the Franklin Library and uplift the spirit of the surrounding community. As ambassadors for the library, Friends of Franklin Library members advocate for community needs and help promote library programs and services.
