Washburn Library, located near the scenic Minnehaha Creek, serves the neighborhoods of southwest Minneapolis. Library service to this area began in 1939 with a bookmobile route. Named for local flour magnate and U.S. Senator William D. Washburn (1831-1912), Washburn Library opened at its current location in 1970.

Friends of Washburn Library

Friends of Washburn Library is a volunteer-run organization whose mission is to support the Washburn Library and uplift the spirit of the surrounding community. As ambassadors for the library, Friends of Washburn Library members advocate for community needs and help promote library programs and services. Friends of the Washburn Library meet on the 3rd Tuesday of the month in January, March, May, July, September, and November at 6:30 pm in the Community Room on the lower level. Please join us!
